The Shammy Drawstring bag is a quick and simple project that has so many uses. Originally I designed the bag to hold a riding helmet for a friends birthday, the pattern is named after her horse Shammy as well. However as soon as my eldest son saw it he asked for one for a library bag this year, and my other son wants one for swimming lessons.
Fabric is not limited to just woven cotton, you could use stretch, waterproof, or anything you like depending on the reason you're making the bag. Just be sure to use the correct needle and thread for your fabric.
Also if you want a bigger or smaller bag, just adjust the size and use the exact same method and seam allowances.
This bag measures 16" x 18" (40cm x 45cm)
it's a good size to hold a riding helmet, or for a primary aged child to have for books. You would also fit a small towel and change of clothes. For an older child you may wish to increase the size.
Proceeds from the sale of this bag will be donated to my local riding club. Rollands Plains Equestrian Club Inc
